The FPO Push
About 2/3rd of our population depends directly or indirectly on agriculture for livelihood
Small and marginal land holdings (below 2 Ha) constitute more than 85% of the total land holdings. In order to enhance these small and marginal farmers’ access to investments, technological advancements and efficient inputs and markets, collectivisation of the farmers in the form of Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) with equal ownership and shareholding by the member farmers is being promoted.
The first step towards FPO formation is identifying that cohort which can be collectivized. This requires a detailed understanding and analysis of the demographics, socio-economic settings, crops and cultivation capacity, environmental factors, actors and markets.
